The world has become a jungle of knowledge. Wherever you turn, you find a new fruit that just has to be passed on to your child. In the middle of all the knowledge flying to and fro, we sometimes forget to talk and relax with our children. A mom who doubles as a teacher needs to leave the teacher behind and simply become mom for a few hours everyday.
Listen to your child. Do not just hear the words, but notice the emotion too. Many children find it difficult to express exactly what they want. Talk to your child about general stuff and allow him to be “just a kid.” When you talk to your child, ask for his opinions. Few things please him more. It also adds kilos to his self-confidence.
Most parents interrupt when their children talk. We, as adults, detest it when someone cuts across our lines. Kids keep mum because they are forced to be silent when we shut them up. But this is unhealthy and unfair. Allow your child to finish and then express your views in a rational manner. The child should have the confidence to confide in you.
Keep in mind that homeschool should enjoyable. As the saying goes, all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. Also, keeping learning fun is one of the best ways to ensure that your children learn well, and are happy to cooperate in the learning process.
To make home schooling more enjoyable you should be flexible with your time.
Keep a simple lifestyle and make homeschool a part of it. This way you will not have to worry to much about timings. But make sure your child is spending the required amount of time on studying. Nevertheless, even though you keep your timings flexible, try to follow a routine.
Consider the temperament of your particular child and how they adapt to new subjects and changes in topics. Rather than rushing into a new topic, ease into it. Start with giving your child an overview of what they about to learn. This will also set their focus to the coming information and increase retention. Also, spend more time on topics that the child is struggling with.
To make learning more fun, first cover the main topic. Then you can spend time enjoying the post sessions with games and talks about the subject. You can incorporate a lot of studies into the extra curricular activities.
Finally, do not lose track of what is being taught. You should be able to spend time with your children making things fun while at the same time you should keep track of what must be taught next. If you spend enough time with your kids and have good home schooling principles learning can be fun. Both you and your child can have a great time homeschooling.
